Purpose of the Department

The educational goal of the Department of Marine Engineering is mainly to cultivate excellent merchant ship marine engineers and related marine engineering personnel. In addition, it also actively cultivates majors in mechanical design, motor control and power system operation related to maritime (land) transportation and various types of onshore factories. Talents are responsible for system design, control, maintenance, operation and management of sea (land) transportation and related fields. It is worth mentioning that all courses in this department have been verified by the Classification Association and comply with the curriculum planning of the STCW International Convention. Therefore, after graduation, students can directly take the highest level (first-class) engineer examination.

In line with the course planning of the STCW International Convention and taking into account students' development after graduation, our department has equipped the Qijin campus with a "Marine Engineering Simulator Classroom" and various professional laboratories for the teaching and research purposes of the faculty. Additionally, there are large-scale practical workshops such as the "Main and Auxiliary Engine Training Workshop," "Ship Machinery Workshop," "External Combustion Engine Workshop," and "Lathe Workshop" for student practice. For practical training needs in electronics, electrical engineering, and automatic control, the campus is also equipped with "Ship Electrical Engineering Training Workshop," "Automatic Control Training Workshop," "Electrical Wiring Training Workshop," "Electronics Laboratory," and "Mechatronics Integration Laboratory."

At present, the department maintains good industry-university cooperation relationships with various shipping companies (such as: Evergreen, Yang Ming, Taiwan Airlines, China Steel Express, Wan Hai, Formosa Plastics, Xinxing, Yumin, AVIC, etc.), and every year We try our best to provide opportunities for students who are willing to go on-board internships to complete "maritime internships" during their studies. In recent years, as the number of shipmates working on ships (with a monthly salary of about 100,000 to 300,000 yuan) has been increasing year by year, and their performance in various shipping companies has been praised and affirmed, many shipping-related companies have started to work in this country. The department has established scholarships and bursaries to assist students from poor families but who work hard to study. For students who have no intention of serving on ships after graduation, after completing the professional training courses designed by this department, they can also work in power plants, steam and electricity symbiosis plants, electronic semiconductor plants, petrochemical plants, steel mills, port authorities, container centers, etc. Employment at the Customs, Coast Guard, etc. Different from the traditional mechanical or electromechanical related departments, the job market for graduates of this department will be broader, and there will be no restrictions on their future development fields. Since the addition of the Marine Engineering College Entrance Examination and the General Entrance Examination in 2013, graduates of this department will be provided with another career choice.
